Arkham Knights

s1e9 - And So It Begins
Things Get Real Now

We picked up the day after s1e8 – Dead of Night ended, with everyone recuperating and tending to the required, but normal business of the day. Concerns like “How much will plastic surgery for the facial scars be and will my insurance cover it?” or “How am I going to make money for my hotel room if I can’t dance in a sleazy bar for very lonely, smelly men?”

Olivia finally contacted Mo about her parents having been missing for more than a week. He agreed to look into it. She then contacted Gao to ask for help. The conversation went something like this:

Olivia: My parents have been missing for about a week and ahalf can you please help me find them?
Gao: I guess
Olivia: I called Mo and he is looking into it for me
Olivia: also
Olivia: I’m not so worried but Mikey is worried sick. I personally think evil me has somethign to do with it
Gao: I guess this is the kind of thing life insurance is for

Olivia didn’t take that last comment in the humor it was intended (maybe – no onebut Gao knows what humor was intended there). Regardless, that set a bad tone for the two of them that will last who knows how long?

Olivia called Manasa, who invited the troubled teen to her hotel room. . . While Olivia was in transit, Manasa called Gao and invited him over (in what looked like and attempt to get them to talk). When Olivia saw Gao walking up to the hotel room, she fled the scene in tears. Gao, under a facade of indifference, suggested he and Manasa go to Olivia’s home to find DNA samples from her parents so he could just use a tracking spell to find them.

When Gao and Manasa arrived at Olivia’s home, they found it to be on fire. Lots of fire. Which while very bad for Olivia and anyone in the shack, did warm up the cold Massachusetts air nicely. They called Mo (who happened to be with Olivia by this point) about the fire, and then the two of them split up to look for Michael. Mo and Olivia set out towards her home.

That’s when, out of the darkness, Manasa (already working with a fractured hip and broken left arm) found herself assaulted by two “white trash” vampires (actually, Olivia’s parents). In mere seconds, before she even had a chance to put up a defense or cry for help, Manasa was beaten unconscious (and then beaten some more).

While moving back to her previous location, Gao noticed the hood of his car hanging off, and part of the engine ripped off. Then he spotted, in the distance, Manasa’s prone form. Gao retreated to his car to wait for support. While he did so, the Danvers vampires availed themselves of the opportunity to feed on Manasa.

By the time Olivia and Mo arrived, the vampires had already fled the area (or at least it appeared that way). Hearing the sirens of AFD on the way, Mo and Gao took Manasa’s unconscious form back to the office, leaving Olivia there to try and track her now missing brother.

As they were preparing to haul Manasa off, Evan was pulling into the office parking lot to check in after a long surgery. That’s when he noticed Michael Danvers crouched in front of the office doors. He took him inside for something to drink, and to warm him up. Michael informed Evan that his parents had been turned, and set the house on fire.

Finally, they got Manasa chained down (in case the vamps had turned her)in one of the exam rooms, and Olivia reunited with Michael, allowing Michael to tell his tale of fleeing his vampire parents.

Before long, they heard Manasa scream in an unearthly manner. Rushing back, they found her convulsing. Evan moved to give her a sedative, and that’s when he noticed that her skin was rippling, with what looked like scales trying to break through the flesh. Just as he inserted the needle for the sedative, she arched up and vomited forth an unbelievable quantity of black. . . stuff, thick, like tar, but smelling or bile and boil pus. The ooze coated everything, including Evan, but he did manage to sedate her form. Then he puked. Then Olivia went to look at Manasa and puked.

We left with Mo beginning to clean up the terrible, terrible mess. . .

The next day, as Gao continued some very important research (possibly into porn, who knows?), upon his door was a knocka knocka. He opened to find a fellow Watcher, Thurston Howell the Third, standing upon his porch. Gao and Thurston have an as-yet undisclosed history, but it is not one filled with camaraderie and brotherly love. Thurston informed Gao that he was newly arrived in Arkham to follow up on the death of Rhys Harper, gather more information on Gao’s encounter with Spike, and a general check up on the situation in general. And Howell seemed extra eager to begin this task, which would include interviewing everyone that Rhys had become involved with (and those with whom now Gao was involved).

At roughly the same time, Manasa awoke to find herself with a foul stench in her nostrils, pain all over, and. . . oh yeah, that she was apparently chained to a table. Mo proceeded to answer her questions and explain the situation (last thing she remembered was Olivia’s house burning), including why she would not be unchained at that particular moment in time (because maybe she’s a vampire, maybe she’s possessed).

Evan loaned Olivia some money to buy new clothes for her and Mikey and some other supplies for their extended stay in Mansasa’s motel room. Good times. . .

Gao brought Thurston to the office to begin conducting interviews, all of which went fairly well (i.e., no one tried to stab the guy or anything). After the interviews, Evan and Mo took Manasa to the hospital in order to get a complete check up done and run a full battery of tests.

A couple of days later, Thurston showed back up at Gao with wonderful news. He’d submitted his reports, and the Watcher’s Council, in their infinite wisdom, decided that Thurston should stay in Arkham for a while to provide oversight and more direct reporting back to the Council.

Saturday night, under the pretense of doing surveillance, Evan went out on a date with Susan Dumont. Bad Evan. That behavior is going to come back and bite him in the ass at some point I bet.

Most of the next week was uneventful, with folks preparing for Thanksgiving, or what not. According to science, Manasa was human. Sure, a brutally beaten, blood-drained human, but human. But what does science know? So the hospital cut her loose (because dammit, they’re tired of paying for her). Thanksgiving went off without a hitch (yea!).

The next Monday was Mo’s birthday! Happy Birthday Mo! Evan took Mo out to lunch, while Dolores called everyone to the office for a surprise birthday party. Just what the group needs. A nice, fun party full of tasty food, good moods, friends and family, including Mo’s mother, Evan’s wife Sarah and daughter Shannon. Michael Danvers didn’t make it though (but no one seemed to notice). Probably had school.

Everyone hopped out when Evan flicked on the lights, yelling “Surprise!” And much mirth was had by all (because clearly the trained detective didn’t’ suspect anything). As everyone moved into the conference room for cake, Olivia mentioned that she had left Mo’s gift on her bike and would be right back. . .

Mo: talk to Evan before we go in How long have you been planning this?
Evan: I don’t know a couple weeks or so. Did we surprise you?
Mo: Did olivia know the whole time?
Evan: I don’t know. Why?
The Director: Mo, your phone is ringing
Mo: One sec.. hello?
Dana Green: Mo! You’re in dan. . .
The Director: You suddenly feel like your head is going to explode as you get a vision of fire and smoke and a loud, eternal ringing sound!
Mo: moving towards the conference room Everyone clear the building now !!!!!

And that’s when the world exploded around them.

The explosion came from Dolores’ desk. It flung Mo head first into a refrigerator, but the wall caught some of the blast for him. Manasa and Gao were thrown hard into an exterior wall, while Evan was blown through a door, with a piece of wood lodged in his chest. Most everyone else was in the conference room, where the wall provided some measure of protection against the blast (by taking the brunt of it as it was blown to splinters). No one escaped the blast without injury, some more severe than others. Even Thurston Howell, who had been walking up to the door when it happened, was flung back across the street.

Except for little Shannon Haydenfield, who was severely wounded by shrapnel. Dolores handed the girl off to Mo, who proceeded to run her to the ER down the block, figuring Evan and Sarah would catch up. The Manasa, Gao, Thurston and Dolores struggled to move debris and furniture to help Sarah and Mama Ali. As soon as Sarah was freed, she and Evan immediately chased after Mo and their daughter, leaving Manasa, Gao, Thurston, Dolores and Mama Ali to make their way. By the time that group made it outside, medical students were moving towards to area out of curiosity and a desire to help any injured.

Gao went down the block a little to see if he could find anything Olivia may have left behind. That’s when, as Manasa felt herself being thrown to the ground, Gao felt a burning, stabbing pain in his back (and a ruptured kidney). Gao, seriously injured, ran for cover. Manasa, unable to act, caught a glimpse of Olivia (probably the evil one) standing over her, and the prone forms of Dolores, Thurston and Mama Ali (Olivia had jumped on them from above). Before Manasa could even formulate a curse, Olivia knifed Dolores hard, kicked Thurston so hard in the groin that the shocked knocked him out, and stabbed Mama Ali, right there in the middle of the street full of witnesses.

Manasa, seeing the massive amount of blood pooling under Dolores pleaded with Olivia to just go away, after already having blown up the building. Olivia answered her plea with a boot to the face that knocked Manasa out cold and left her with a severe concussion. The sight of a crazed, knife-wielding teenage girl stopped all the bystands who had been approaching to help. That’s when Olivia announced to everyone present

Olivia: THAT’S RIGHT BITCHES! ME, OLIVIA DANVERS JUST KILLED THESE FUCKING PEOPLE!!!! REMEMBER THAT!!!

Then she ran off.

Mo, having handed Shannon off to the doctors, fought his way through the crowd back to the office, to find his friends and family unconscious and bleeding in the street. . .

Most of the rest of the evening was spent fretting in the hospital while filling out police witness statements and questions about Oliva (thanks to her conveniently shouting her name).

The doctors had the following to say:

Shannon would be fine with a little time. Mo’s quick action probably saved her life.

Mama Ali would pull through, but be bed-ridden for a while. This was not good for her heart though.

Manasa would live, with a chance of losing the sight in her left eye.

Gao would live, but have to take it easy for a while.

Dolores had a 60% chance of survival, but was comatose for the time being, and would be paralyzed from the waist down, possibly with other motor control issues.

Sarah Haydenfield was furious with Evan for all of the danger he has brought to the family with his little P.I. hobby. Things aren’t looking good for that family.

Gao, drugged and sleepy, noticed someone quietly walking into his room, a slender form, bundled for the cold weather, face scarf-covered, speaking as it entered. . .

Olivia: Touch the call button and you die tonight Gao.
Gao: Damn you
Olivia: looking at Gao’s haunting spirit Ghost, you shut up now .
Olivia: Damn me? Why ‘damn me’? I haven’t done anything. Haven’t you seen the news? Olivia Danvers did terrible things. And we all know I’m not Olivia. Right? At least, that’s what you tell yourselves.
Gao: If she’s guilty of anything it’s her inaction to stop you
Olivia: Hey, I’m glad to see you pulled through. Was afraid I’d killed you with that knife shot. Sorry about that. I needed to make sure you didn’t interfere. Nothing personal. You know that, right?
Olivia: I mean, if you weren’t a part of her life, I’d leave you completely alone. . .
Olivia: So you might think about that. . .

Around this time, as he was moving to check in on everyone, Mo noticed voices coming from Gao’s room, and he stopped to listen, but they were muffled by the heavy hospital door, preventing him from making much of the sounds.

Gao: You better hope the next time we meet that the odds aren’t so heavily weighted in your favor
Olivia: Gao, it’s only through my mercy that you can look forward to a next time.
Olivia: If I were you, I’d really think about two things –
Olivia: Getting out of town, or helping me.
Gao: I’d laugh if it didn’t hurt so much
Olivia: I’m clever, ambitious, and ruthless. I have plans. You can be a part of those plans.
Gao: You think I like it here?
Olivia: I know you don’t like it here. I’m offering you a chance to get away one way or another.

Mo slowly and silently opened the door a bit so he could hear more clearly. . .

Gao: I thought your kind would be more of a prankster than a terrorist
Olivia: Well, you know my first goal is to make the original’s life hell. That says terror to me more than prank.
Olivia: Right now, I’m just trying to decide if I want to come after all of you some more, or go right after little Mikey. I mean, I’ve already dealt with the parents.
Gao: You turned her parents and killed off what she considers friends…not much left
Olivia: What friends have I killed? I’ve been listening. I didn’t kill anyone today. Well, none of you anyway. So, Mikey is a smart, trained young man. With some vampy infusion, I think he’d make a wonderful companion.
Gao: It’s the first I’ve heard.I thought at least Dolores was gone
Olivia: No, seems the old broad is still alive. For now. She’s a tough old lady. I almost felt bad having to stab her. She seems like a fighter. I bet she pulls through.
Olivia: Who was that guy whose balls I kicked up into his eyes?

At this point, Mo burst into the room, filled with righteous fury, and on the attack. Before anyone realized what was going on, he slammed a hard fist into Olivia’s head, catching her off guard, but only for a moment.

Olivia: Well, this is a surprise! How’s the old lady Mo?

Olivia retaliated with a quick strike at Mo’s groin, to minimal effect, followed by a strike to his face. Before he could counterstrike, she quick drew her knife and thrust it at Gao’s face. . .

Olivia: Don’t make me kill him Mo. . .

Mo noticed that the knife she held was covered in dried blood, the blood of his mother and friends. As his fury grew, Olivia slammed the knife at Gao (clearly pulling her strike some) while simultaneously jumping over Gao’s bed, and through the window, to the ground 40 feet below.

Mo rushed to the window, drawing his weapon as he moved. He saw Olivia on the ground, with a clear shot and opened fire, striking solidly in the murderous girl’s shoulder. He saw her arm go completely limp as he tried to line up next shot.

At the sounds of gunfire, Evan ran out of his daughter’s room, calling for his wife to secure the door. He made it to Gao’s room just as Mo fired a second shot at the obviously injured Olivia. His second shot clipped her in the head as she ran. Olivia stopped, turned around to face Mo up above. As she pulled her hand from her head, he could see the slick blood covering her hand. She smiled a big happy grin at Mo as she simply disappeared from sight.

And this is where the montage began, to the accompaniment of Sara McLachlan’s “I Will Remember You”. . .

Beginning with Gao, sitting in a new bed, injured, and helpless in the face of these events, worried ghost by his side. . .

To Manasa, asleep in her bed, face bandaged like a mummy, bad dreams evident on her visible expression, as machines near her bed beep slowly. . .

To Dolores, in ICU, comatose, looking pale and old, hooked up to more machines than Darth Vader. A doctor scans her chart and shakes his head. . .

Moving down the hall to the room where Mama Ali rests, but stopping in front of the room, Dana Green on the floor, seizing, as medical personnel rush to her side. . .

To Shannon’s room, where Evan and Sarah sit quietly over their injured daughter, Sarah’s rage at Evan almost visible in the silent room. . .

To Mo, talking with security and police, who keep showing him pictures of Olivia, her school photo alongside a security camera image where she gleefully shows her face to the camera. He shakes his head in denial, but his expression betrays the truth of the situation. . .

To a cozy living room, lit by a fireplace and a television showing an old movie. Sitting on a couch is Olivia, head bandaged, arm in a sling, a cup of something in her good hand, and self-satisfied grin on her face. She is speaking with someone unseen, when she sets the cup down and extends her hand toward the fireplace. . . and a familiar mark burns into her palm. . .

The view slowly turns to the fire, where a face is visible as the music fades out. . .

Mysterious Entity: Your wish is granted my dear. . . and soon the entire world will know my glory!

-

Manasa: What the hell Mo?? Why am I chained up?? I hurt all over, and what’s that awful smell?
Mo: Ma and Pa kettle had themselves a picnic with you. So as a precaution we had to restrain you.
Mo: How are you feeling maybe a little cold coming on?
Manasa: Well fucking unrestrain me. And can I have some ibuprofen?
Manasa: I feel like I got the crap beat out of me, how do you think I feel?
Mo: You hacked up a phlegm ball the size of a Buick of some foul stuff that should not come from a human body which leads me to my next question. . .
Mo: What the hell are you?

Evan: Manasa! Are you a fish person?
Manasa: No, are you?
Evan: I don’t think so.

Evan: So you claim that you are not any kind of Monster or Demon in disguise correct?
Gao: Enough lies. I’m tired of being played for a fool. You aren’t human, so get out with it!
Evan: Hi Gao. Glad you could join us in this small room and be hostile.
Manasa: blank stare
Evan: And it was very effective.

Evan: Mo, I am taking you to lunch for your birthday. Yacht club or Country club? Or anywhere else you want to go.
Mo: Whichever is less pretentious.
Evan: I’ll buy you a top hat and a monocle

Mo: to Gao Next time try to catch the knife with your hand instead of your kidney

s1e8 - Dead of Night
Won't Somebody PLEASE Think of the Children?!?

First, the actual end of the last episode:
Olivia attacked a commando and the Reader, but was then tasered into unconsciousness, and had her mind read. Miss Thorstien and the strike team then left the building. When replacing the windows this time, Mo opted for armored glass.
-

About a week later or so, while sitting in the office (because really, that’s all he does), Mo received a job offer by fax. A simple job to search the remains of a wealthy dead man’s home with the goal of finding anything of value that may have been missed in the initial asset collection process. The property of the dead man, Jason Checkley, had already been sold to a development company, and during the demolition (which started right after Checkley’s death), a small hidden cubby or alcove was revealed. This wasn’t unusual, except for the fact that the alcove contained a skeleton, making the scene a crime scene. That makes investigating the scene without authorization a criminal act. Luckily, our heroes aren’t afraid of a little criminal act here and there.

Mo and Evan set out to investigate any leads on possible missing treasures, and ended up rounding up Gao and Manasa (who is still suffering from a broken arm, fractured hip, and other wounds) to go investigate the remains of the property.

Some keen night time investigation led them to a small, hand-dug tunnel. Mo crawled in and followed the short tunnel into a small, foul room that had signs of human remains, and ritual necromancy. A locked door and the walls were all clawed up, especially the wall around the tunnel. Something had lived in here and for whatever reason, ripped its way out and up into the world. In the room, they found a scrap of cloth, which Gao later used in a location spell.

The spell led Gao, Manasa, and Mo to one of Arkham’s many cemeteries. Why not Evan also? Because while they were discussing plans, he received a call from his wife with the demand that he get to the hospital A.S.A.P! Seems his daughter had fallen down the stairs. He and his wife ended up in a brief argument (rooted in her basic dislike of his side business as a P.I.). Evan went home to shower (he, Mo, and Gao all stank of decay, death, and feces from the tunnel crawling).

At the cemetery, Gao and Manasa were attacked by a vampire looking for a nighttime snack. Gao fended off the aggressor with a newly learned column of flame incantation. The trio made their way to the Checkley family crypt, which showed signs of recent entry (entry that someone tried to cover up).

While Gao and Manasa looked around inside of the mausoleum, Mo stood watch outside the front door, when a terrifying creature attacked him form above, tearing his face open. It looked to be a small child, a girl, in the remains of a blue dress. The poor creature was clearly undead, all rotting flesh and muscle, with bits and pieces hanging off, and the stench of decay cloaking her like protective armor. Mo lashed out with strikes (which did nothing) and a leg sweep, knocking the abomination to the ground. Gao jumped out with his sword and struck a fierce, but not killing blow! In retaliation, the zombie child sunk her undead chompers into Gao’s foot, and her ragged claws into his shins, seemingly with the goal of tearing his leg off for later consumption.

Mo jumped in and drove a stake into the childthing’s head, but even that didn’t stop her fearsome assault on Gao’s extremities! Gao’s repeated blows with his sword did, however, stop her vicious assault upon his shin! Then they hacked up the body and shoved the remains in a corner of the mausoleum. Not their best clean up job.

Meanwhile, Evan returned to the hospital to find his daughter and wife asleep. As he set his daughter’s Teddy Bear on her chest, she sprang up, stiff like a board, and with solid, milky white eyes.

Immortal, your path is false, and all that you love shall fall along the way” she proclaimed, before falling back into unconsciousness.

To be continued. . .

We pick back up a couple days later, after the team has done some research. The evidence led the team to some abandoned warehouses in the docks district of Arkham. The team wandered around a bit in the chill night air, until Evan got scared by a stray dog. The dog began to scratch at the metal sheeting of one of the warehouses, when, before Evan and Gao’s eyes, it was snatched into the building under the sheet metal! A-HA! This must be the place they thought. So Mo picked the lock, threw open the doors, stepped in, and was immediately pounced upon by the second zombie child, who seriously damaged his neck as she drove him face first into the ground and mounted him with nothing but ill intent towards his flesh.

Mo managed to get out from under the zombie child, as Gao hacked at it with his sword. Manasa tried to take it down with a KO punch, and Evan shot it four times, none of which seemed to have much effect, It didn’t even have much effect when Manasa came back and tried to knock it out three times with her flashlight. What did have an effect was Gao throwing a column of flame spell on it (though that burned the piss out of Evan also), followed by Evan hacking it down with his sword. They tossed the creature in the Miskatonic and went home for the night (after ending to Mo’s wounds; poor Mo. Twice now he has been the first target and brunt-bearer of the wee lil zombie children).

After following up on some crimson salmon, they decided to go investigate a newspaper (remember, it’s 1999, those are still around) story about a ghost sighting in the woods north of town. Somehow, Mo managed to get far away form the team, when SHOCK GASP out form under a bridge sprung the last, and most fierce (well, not really, the warehouse one was the most fierce – this one would have grown content to feed on animals in the woods) zombie child, Adam! He lunged at Mo, scoring a nasty bite. In retaliation, Mo drew his BRAND NEW MACHETE and . . .

hacked the zombie boy to a second death in less than 3 seconds, thus concluding the adventure. It was a bit anticlimactic. Hell, the poor thing was dead before the rest of the team even realized a mortal kombat was playing out not too far away.

Sarah Haydenfield: Jesus Evan, where have you been? You stink!
Evan: I was working and fell into a hole.
Shannon Haydenfield: It was an accident. Beth asked something and I turned and tripped.
Evan: I was going to take a shower when I got called.
Sarah Haydenfield: . . . Okay. . .
Evan: The investigating job, not the surgeon job.

Shannon Haydenfield: springs to a sitting position, stiff backed, eyes solid milky white Immortal, your path is false, and all that you love shall fall along the way!
Evan: Well, shit.

Evan: Big dog Mo
Evan: Kill it
Mo: you are running from Fido?
Evan: Not running, just backing away.

Evan: If the zombie kids are eating dogs I say we leave them alone.
Mo: there is only a finite number of dogs in this city what happens when we run out
Evan: Then we can kill the zombie kids
Evan: And all our problems are solved.

Evan: What if its a dog trick and I bang on the thing and the dog runs out and eats me?
Evan: Or gives me rabies.
Mo: you are a doctor you can give yourself the shots
Evan: THAT’S NOT THE POINT!

s1e7 - Blood Brothers
One Olivia Too Many!

A psychic vision led the team to interrupt a ritual being performed by demon cultists. While the group handily handled the cultists, they caused the ritual to go wrong. Before they knew it, Olivia rose into the air, and a light was ripped from her. The light quickly took the form of. . . Olivia before it disappeared.

Now the team is on the hunt for what, by all accounts, is an evil twin to their best fighter. An evil twin who knows what Olivia knows, and can do what she does, but better.

The duplicate manifested during Evan first battle with another Immortal in order to explain it’s goals to Mo.

Evan handled himself nicely against his first Immortal opponent, scoring several telling blows through the man’s defenses, before taking his head with a single, precise strike. He has now felt his first Quickening, the rush of taking a defeated foe’s life force and experience into himself.

Mo and Olivia shared a dream of a young woman, wandering the streets, scared and alone, until she ran into Olivia. The girl asked for help, to be answered by Olivia adopting a more demonic guise and snapping the girl’s neck as the city, and then world, was engulfed in flames.

==
While pondering how to proceed in the case of Olivia’s Evil Twin, API was approached by a man, Richard D’Angelo, who needed their help to find his runaway niece, Janine. Her father killed her mother and committed suicide a mere week before, and in shock, the girl ran away. Mo recognized the picture of the missing girl as the girl form his dream, so accepted the case. Some simple investigative work led him first to the girl’s current residence, and then to her place of work – a down and dirty strip club. Within moments of entering, they spotted Janine on the stage, frozen with fear, when the power to the club went out and the place was invaded by a group of cultists like those from the warehouse. A short melee ensued, while Mo managed to grab the girl, and vacate the premises.

After taking her back to the office for a while, Evan was able to convince Captain John to take the girl in for a few days for protection (to keep Olivia from knowing where she was). Evan, Mo, and Dolores transported the girl to Captain John’s, and while there, managed to gather further information on the case.

They learned that Janine seems to have prophetic dreams, but also believes that what she dreams comes true, and they also learned that she doesn’t have an uncle that she knows of, which tore some holes in Richard D’Angelo’s story.

The next morning, when Evan was at the gym getting changed, he received a phone call from Captain John. Evan heard the sounds of battle as John screamed “GET OVER HERE NOW!”

==
Evan, on the move, called Mo and Gao for help. Arriving on the scene, he found the Captain and Dolores embattled by a horde of the little demon cultists that had been plaguing them since the beginning of all this. Evan set about blasting cultists in the face with a Magnum. Shortly thereafter, Mo and Manasa showed up and joined the fray, followed by Gao. The fight was. . . less than epic, the demon cultists having only numbers as an advantage against a skilled team. By far the most epic thing about the melee was Evan going to charge a cultist but missing and running face first into a door frame, nearly removing himself from the fight. They all got a good look at Dolores’s handiwork – for a 60 year old women, she seemed to have scored a kill count of about 5 or 6 cultists.

The next few hours were spent hacking up and bagging cultist bodies for disposal (via river tossing). While this was going on, during lunch, a boy, a popular jock at that, approached Olivia and asked for help with a science project. After getting past her initial suspicions that it was a trick of some kind, she agreed to meet him at the library after school to help Daryl.

Evan took Dolores to the hospital, while the rest of them took Janine back to the office since the Captain’s place was no longer secure. Shortly thereafter, a woman walked into the office, asking to speak with Mr. Ali or Mr. Haydenfield. She introduced herself as Ingrid Thorstein, Wolfram & Hart. She explained to Mo that W&H had been made trustees of the D’Angelo estate, and guardians of Janine. Mo asked her to wait while he confirmed the legal decisions. After he went into an office to make some calls, Manasa ordered Thorstein to sit down. Upon Thorstein’s refusal, Manasa stood up with axe out, in a clearly threatening manner.

Meanwhile, Dolores checked out as having no permanent damage at the hospital. At least none from that fight.

Olivia met Daryl at the library and discovered that he was in fact working a science project, and needed help. They left off exchanging numbers, with an unspoken promise of more meetings.

Back at the ranch, Thorstein told Manasa she had a 5 count to put her weapon away and cease her threatening ways. Manasa failed to comply, which is when Thorstein called in the strike team. . .

Oh yeah.

All of a sudden, the newly replaced side windows were smashed in, along with the front door, as a commando team busted into the office. Mo struck like a viper, taking one commando’s gun from him and knocking another to the ground. Mo engaged in melee with the commandos, 3 on 1, and held his own quite nicely. Manasa struck a commando with an axe, and as a result, got shot a lot for her trouble. Just a few seconds into the battle (which you’ll note is lacking Evan, Gao, and Olivia), a group of large, demonic thugs showed up, hollarin’ to be given the girl. The thugs engaged the commandos, and things went almost free for all. Mo made his way out of the office to the reception area, where he found several commandos, demon thugs and a severely wounded Manasa fighting, well, everyone. That’s when Olivia showed up. She proceeded to attack the commandos, as she made her way over to Janine, who had come down the stairs, curios to know about the commotion.

Yes, you guessed it. It was not Olivia, but EVIL Olivia, and she teleported away with Janine.

Around this time, Evan pulled up a block away, and called Mo to ask why there were a bunch of armed men outside the office. As he and Mo conversed, Thorstein ordered her men to stand down (after one of them had called in team 2 – reinforcements are a bitch). Olivia, biking home, engaged one of the demon thugs but he retreated, having better things to do.

Thorstein agreed to let Evan take Manasa to the hospital while they waited for a W&H clean-up team to arrive. Olivia made her way to the office to find out what the fuck, and when she and Mo went in, one of the commandos (one whom EVIL Olivia had kicked in the balls REALLY hard) started yelling for her to get on the ground, and everyone was ready to kill again. When the commando pointed out to Miss Thorstien (whom EVIL Olivia had knocked out upon first appearing – she never saw who hit her) that this was the girl who took the target, well, things took a turn for the worse.

Thorstein called in for a Reader, while Olivia started explaining where she had been and how it clearly wasn’t her who had taken the girl, etc. When given a a choice between submitting to the Reader or doing it the hard way, Olivia said “you touch me and i really will kick someone in the balls”, which is about the time one of the commandos smashed her in the head with the butt of his SMG.

To be continued (but what’s going to happen is Olivia will resist, she will lose, the Reader will read, and do some mental damage at the same time, they find she’s telling the truth, they go away, no one is happy!)

-
Manasa: are you crying?
Olivia: (tries to compose herself) No!
Manasa: I hope not! There’s no crying in slaying! All warriors know that!

Evan: Hey, duty calls and the world doesn’t save its self.
Sarah Haydenfield: Fine. You go do what you think you need to do, but don’t think we’re not going to talk about this.

Evan: Oh good. Manasa is here. After the van again? Looking to set something on fire?

GM: You swing, making contact with the demon, but also slashing Evan in the process
Evan: Seriously. Who’s side are you on?

Gao: Hopefully this thing will go away once it doesn’t have a living vessel.
Olivia: What are you planning on doing? Killing me>
Gao: No, you’re going to kill you.
Olivia: So you want me to kill myself or the spirit
Gao: You pay this much attention in school? The spirit is occupying a copy of you.
Gao: You should be occupied with the thing that is in all senses a copy of you and wants to hurt everyone you know.
Olivia: Well if that’s the case it should also feel my pain as well.
Gao: It’s not your soul twin…American children watch too much TV.

Evan: If you lay down, I’ll stop hitting you.

Evan: Are you in this country Illegally?
Manasa: I came into the US from Canada.
Evan: That was not the question.
Manasa: I hitchhiked. is hitchhiking illegal?

Capt. John: Girl has probably left DNA all over the damned place.
Evan: Well, then we having something in common. HIGH FIVE!

Ingrid Thorstein: (To Manasa) I really suggest you sit down miss. I’d hate to have to fill out the paperwork if you get hurt.

Mo: I don’t kill people now get the fuck out of here before I change my mind.

s1e6 - Demon of Catheway
Ancient Evils in Small Towns

API was brought in on a missing persons case by a Dr. Armedt, on behalf of one of his students. The students’ brother had gone missing after looking into something concerning ancient Egyptian artifacts on behalf of Dr. Armedt. After a short bit of investigation, the leads led them to the small, dying town of Catheway (pop 100 – then at least). Some digging gave them the name Bob Leland as a possible suspect. Conversations with townsfolk indicated that Leland was trouble. Mo and Evan decided to go back and round up the troops just in case they needed some backup.

Also, at some point, while on patrol, Olivia, Gao, and Manasa got their asses handed to them by Spike, who was hanging out in Arkahm for little spot o fun. In Spike’s defense, he was just banging a willing partner in an alleyway when they assaulted him.

The next day, the crew made their way back to Catheway, and Leland’s home, where they preformed some breaking, entering, and snooping. The most important thing they found in Leland’s place was the bomb-making materials. A lot of materials. But no sign of Leland, so they went to the only eatery in town to wait until later to try and contact him.

Their lovely meal at the inn (complete with a very friendly proprietor) was suddenly and violently interrupted by the back wall exploding in, in flames, and several explosions rocked the town at roughly the same time the power was cut! As they moved swiftly to exit the ablaze building (while rescuing the proprietor), they started hearing whoopin’, hollerin’, gunfire, and screamin’!

Apparently, there were yahoos I cars and trucks driving around shooting and running over the citizens of Catheway as they tried to escape their burning homes or moved to help their neighbors. Olivia and Mo quickly took the fight to the Evil Yahoos, while the others. . . .dicked around or something.

In a matter of moments, Olivia and Mo brought down at least two of the Evil Yahoos, though Olivia took a nasty gunshot wound in the process. Mo managed to avoid one Evil Yahoo that tried to run him over and ended up crashing into a house.

Mo got the drop on one of the Evil Yahoos and tried to use him as a “surrender or he dies” hostage, but Leland simply put a bullet in the minion’s face before driving off with the surviving Yahoos and a truck bed full of bodies.

Olivia and Mo jumped into one of the Yahoo’s trucks to engage in pursuit, and were swiftly joined by Manasa and Gao (having finally caught up while leaving Evan on foot). They followed Leland into the woods, and, while strategizing, were joined by Evan (having appropriated a different Evil Yahoo’s car). At which point, petty bickering commenced, which gave the bad guys time to complete the spell they were working on (Thanks Heroes!) that freed an ancient evil creature, allowing him to roam loose on the world once again!

Olivia, not being a part of the bickering, snuck up and took down one Evil Yahoo with her bow, like a Teenage American Ninja. The battle commenced – Leland joined the fray, firing off his .45 like a drunken redneck, and finally by the mummified creature, who started off with a magical gust of wind that knocked Mo and Gao down (at this point, Evan was out of the way, and Manasa was still back at the cars screwing around). Olivia withstood the spell and started sinking shafts in the creature’s body.

Long story short – Olivia took down the ancient evil with several bow shots while Mo and Evan served to subdue Leland. They didn’t’ realize that Leland had a second gun, however, and he managed to end his own life at seeing the defeat of his master.

Shortly thereafter, the local Sheriff, whom Evan had briefly encountered while the town was burning, showed up ready to shoot and/or arrest everyone. After a tense few moments, Gao incapacitated the sheriff briefly, while Oliva sprang into action and knocked him smooth out. While he was out, the group fled the woods and the remains of Catheway, victors (mostly).

Catheway (at beginning) population 100, buildings 30
Catheway (at end) population 27, buildings 8

Evan: I don’t know. Ask Mo. He talked to Jamie more than I did. And yes.
Evan: He never liked me cause I shot him
Manasa: hehe, so why did you shoot him?
Evan: I was being mind controlled or somthing. It was only once but he was really not cool about it.
Evan: I even said I was sorry and he punched me.
-
Evan: We have a small case but its in hand at the moment. More importantly, are you stripping or waiting tables?
Manasa: dancing
Evan: Well, don’t get weird if you see me there and don’t worry, I always tip very well.
Manasa: i don’t care what you see, but touch me and i’ll break something
Evan: Agressive
-
Gao: We need to leave…That is William the Bloody! We are not ready for this
-
Evan: We ready for an exciting day of hillbilly fighting?
Mo: yep. How is your schedule when can we pencil in this ass kicking
Evan: You know me, I can always make time for ass kicking.
-
Gao: I think this guy likes fire and explosions
Gao: Or he’s an amateur clockmaker and gardener
-
Dan Jacobs: All of you, down on the ground! You know the position!
Olivia: Figures. Stop a demon, get hassled by the Man
Evan: Just keep cool Olivia

s1e5 - The Bookstore
Evil books. . . what a shock

Reginald Preston (Guest Star Patrick Stewart) approached Mo Ali to handle a case. Seems a friend of his, a bookstore owner, was dead, and the store and body haunted by some kind of entity. Mo went to investigate and sure enough, there was some kind of spirit creature inside the store. It attacked a young woman who entered the store shortly after Mo. They managed to escape the creature, and Mo took the young woman, Manasa Rush, back to the office so Evan could look at her wounds.

Eventually, Mo managed to round up Evan Haydenfield and Olivia Danvers in order to help deal with the entity. The group also met Gao Longwei (Gow Lung-way), Olivia’s new Watcher, who agreed to aid them in this quest. A phone call with Presotn informed Mo that is he could grab a pic of the binding seal on the book, Preston might be able to dig up a ritual designed to banish the creature from the earthly realms. Before heading off, they saw a story on the late night news about a beating at a local night club, Arkham Nights, in which one Jaime Sanders was taken into custody for beating a club-goer near to death.

In the process of trying to score photos of the bonding seal, Manasa got hurt again (0 for 2 against this spirit for her), but she did manage to grab the book and take it outside to the street (for some reason). Mo, acting quickly, jumped outside, grabbed the book and threw it back inside the bookstore before the doors closed. Unsurprisingly, the book’s new position changed the available attack area of the spirit, allowing it some small reach outside of the store and into an adjacent business (Why, yes, it did kill a random person who came within range).

By the next afternoon, Reginald was able to provide them with a proper banishing ritual. They decided Gao would distract the spirit, since he was the only one who could actually hurt it (woot! for Sorcery!) while Evan and Dolores Mayweather would perform the ritual.

Kinda boring story short – they managed to banish the creature. And by “they”, I mostly mean Evan (primary caster on the ritual) and Gao (who blasted the spirit with sorcery while protecting himself and Olivia, almost to the point of collapsing from exhaustion). Dolores remained steady while helping, and eventually, Manasa got involved in performing the ritual as well. Olivia did her best to try and intercept the spirit’s attacks on Gao. When it banished, Gao was one point away from collapse.

Score one for the good guys. Except for the poor dead guy next door who didn’t do anything at all.

Olivia: What the heck have i done but kick ass, and help out?
Mo: well there was the incident where you assaulted a few government agents that was reckless and in the end pointless you could have jeopardized the entire mission not to mention bringing government scrutiny on our operation here
Olivia: giggles

Manasa: So have you guys actually checked out this guy that gave you this ritual?
(So asks the woman who essentially barged her way into this op and has not been vetted in any way)

Evan: WHAT?!!
Evan: I am like a freaking wizard!

Evan: Now Dolores, did you have a good time?
Dolores Mayweather: I’ve had better dates certainly.
Dolores Mayweather: But I admit, I’ve had worse dates too.
Evan: Nice

Manasa: i say we burn this place down.
Mo: wtf are you related to jaime?
Evan: I feel that arson is not the right move here
Manasa: who’s jamie?

s1e4 - A Cult of One
Evil Organ Transplants?!?

Evan performed surgery on a man named Ralph Morgan. Morgan shared a room with Rhys (who had been pretty severely injured), which allowed Evan and the others to get to know Ralph to some degree. Shortly thereafter, Ralph disappeared from the hospital (though he was in no condition to move). When asked by Ralph’s daughter Mary to investigate, the team learned that a handful of folks had recently disappeared. After some digging, they learned the only thing the people had in common was organ donations. Specifically, they all received organs from the same person, one Jedediah Gammell.

Gammell had concocted a scheme to grant himself immortality by investing his life force into his organs and then using those donated organs to take control of the recipients. It worked. And then the team killed pretty much everyone involved, stopping Gammell’s plan. Jaime singlehandedly grappled a hunting horror and snapped its neck (this was that player’s last session before shipping out).

Mo: Me and my associate here are troop leaders for the apocalypse girls she is our patrol leader we are like the girl scouts but more survival training than cookies. we are our looking for new campsites to hold our jamboree. You guys are lucky we did not have the full troop out here.

s1e3 - When Giants Clash
Super Vampires!

The heroes of the story found themselves having to deal with two over-powered vamps, specifically Gary and Mark. Gary was extra large and strong, and Mark had amped up mind control powers. Both of the vampires, however, were losers. The team managed to confront them separately. Olivia, in the dark, managed to take Gary down with her bow in only a couple of seconds. When they engaged Mark, he managed to take mental control of Both Evan and Jaime but failed to usurp control of Mo. Mo was then able to decapitate him. There were indications that the entity from s1e1 – Sweeps Week was connected to the revving up of these two vampires.

Rhys (in the hospital): Calling Olivia: I need you to sneak me in a flask, I have a few at home, just fill it with the amber liquid in the fridge and bring it over please.
Olivia: no not on pain killers
Rhys: Now it not the time to argue child!
-

Mo: sounds like a joke a muslim, a doctor and a demon spawn walk into a bar. Now I just have to figure out the punchline.
-

Rhys: Calling Jaime: We need to talk.
Jaime: What about?
Rhys: You
Jaime: Say again?
Rhys: YOU
Jaime: What about me?
Rhys: Bring me some alcohol and we can talk, I need this favor
Ralph Morgan: Remember, enough for two!
Jaime: There is nothing to talk about. Aren’t you in the hospital, with a head injury, I mean, i am not doctor, well, maybe i am, The Doctor of Kicking ASS!!!!! But wouldn’t alcohol affect you adversely?
-

Jaime: They are gonna pissed. We are gonna interupt their morning cartoons.
Mo: I guess even a shithole feels more like home with cable tv.
Olivia: Shhhhhhh!
Evan: I wonder what they watch
Jaime: Before we kill them, can I ask them how they did that, cause I need to know, i don’t have cable at my house.
Olivia: (whispers) assholes
Mo: they probably just turned a cable guy to hook them up
Evan: That is a smart move
Jaime: I can’t turn a cable guy, maybe we can get him to hook me up?

Evil Possesses an Innocent Woman

Lost my notes for this one also. Went pretty by the numbers. In addition to dealing with the demon that haunted Dana Green, they managed to clear a small house of a troubling entity named Walter Corbitt. Dana and Mo seemed to forge some kind of connection.

Olivia: TRAMPS HAVE NO SELF RESPECT
Rhys: No need to scream, we’re on patrol, how about some tact and a little stealth.
Olivia: tramps have no self respect
-

Olivia: who was that?
Rhys: Just a customer from the library wanting to share an interesting movie.
Olivia: oh…what kind of movie? i love movies!
Rhys: A movie that is well beyond your age, but I find it amusing that you have interest in such things. Let us continue our patrol.
Olivia: well i’m bored Rhys
Rhys takes a gulp off his flask.
Olivia: here comes thedrinking again
Rhys: Well you can call it a night Olivia, but some of us actually need to get some work done out here.
Olivia: ok i’ll be quite
_Rhys chuckles and whispers, “Youth…” _
-

Rhys: I need to try and research this particular event more. Any ideas on what I should look for?
Mo: Girl buys dagger, Dagger gives girl nightmares, girl has dagger sealed in hemetic case, nightmares not gone, world gonna end in three days, usual tuesday stuff
Jaime: Ok. So, how do we stop the end of the world?
Rhys: It must be the butler, never trust an englishman.
-

Mo: Find out just how bad it is like indiana jones melt your face bad or Carolann suck you in the tv eat your house kinda bad.
Mo: or hellraiser yank off your skin kind of bad.
GM: Mass population slaughter bad
Mo: indiana jones face melting bad it is

Captain Kirk and The Terminator!

Lost my notes from this one. Everyone hooked up, and they beat the bad guys. Evan was killed (by the Terminator I believe), only to wake up later in the morgue. That’s when he met Capt. John Stanton and discovered he was now immortal (unless someone removed his head of course).

In the climax of this one, they had their first (but not last) encounter with a powerful, unnamed entity who promised he wasn’t through with them.
